Chapter 9: Millennial Peace
With peace will come safety. Micah pictures it in an agricultural setting, so familiar to the people of his time: “But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the Lord of hosts hath spoken it” (Mic. 4:3-4). In this new age, God will be glorified by all, and God is never glorified by war and division.
“In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely” (Jer. 23:6).
The prophet Isaiah uses even more dramatic language in chapter 9 to describe the end of war: “Thou shalt break the yoke of their burden and the staff on their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor…For every boot of the booted warrior in the battle tumult, and cloak rolled in blood, will be for burning, fuel for the fire” (vs. 4-5, NAS).
Won’t it be thrilling to men like Isaiah, Ezekiel, Micah and Jeremiah, and the other prophets of God, to see the fulfillment of their prophecies? They will all be there when the vision becomes reality.
Remember, too, the glad tidings which the angels sang at the time Jesus was born? It was a song about peace, and it will at last be fulfilled in this Golden Age: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men” (Luke 2:14).
