Are Jesus Christ and Melchizedek the same entity?

Question:

Please, I have a question I would like you to help me with. Are Melchizedek and Jesus Christ our Lord the same or different entities?

Answer:

Jesus Christ is not Melchizedek.

Melchizedek is described in the Bible as:

king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, his name means ‘king of righteousness’; then also, ‘king of Salem’ means ‘king of peace.’ Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, like the Son of God he remains a priest forever” (Heb 7:1-3 NIV).

This description of Melchizedek does not fit Christ. Unlike the entity described in Hebrews 7, Jesus Christ had;

a mother (Mary)

a genealogy (of the line of Jesse)

a beginning of days (1 BC)

and an end of earthly life (33 AD)

Moreover, it is said that Melchizedek was “like the Son of God.” Can he be like the Son of God while at the same time being the Son of God Himself? Who is made like himself?

Additionally, in Hebrews 6, verse 20 Jesus is said to have been “made a high priest for ever after the order of Melchizedec.” Could He be a high priest after the order of Himself?

Admittedly, we are not told much about the identity of Melchizedek, and therefore cannot be clear in identifying this personage. Although it is clear that it is not Jesus Christ our Lord.
